Intended Use of the Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit

Feline distemper, also known as feline panleukopenia, is an acute feline disease with a high degree of contact contagion. The causative agent is feline microvirus (FPV), which mainly infects cats, both domestic and wild felines, and is highly contagious with rapid onset and high mortality. You can test your cat for the disease with the feline panleukopenia virus antibody test kit.

The main manifestations of feline distemper are fever, leukopenia, vomiting and hemorrhagic enteritis. This Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit is used to detect antibodies to feline microvirus in whole blood, serum or plasma of cats.

Test Principle of the Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit

Test principle of the Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit uses a rapid immunochromatographic detection technique for the detection of antibodies to feline fever virus. A sample obtained from cat whole blood, serum or plasma is added to the spiked wells and moved along the chromatographic membrane together with colloidal gold-labeled FPV antigen. If FPV antibodies are present in the sample, they bind to the antigen on the detection line (T) and show a burgundy color. If FPV antibodies are not present in the sample, no color reaction is produced.

The Feline Panleukopenia Virus Test Kit is able to detect Feline Panleukopenia Virus antibody concentration, demonstrating quantitative results. The test serves only as an aid to the diagnosis. For professional use only.

Intend Use

For rapid screening of Feline Panleukopenia Virus in feline whole blood, serum, or plasma. (FPV).

Sample Requirements

  1. The Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit is only suitable for testing cat whole blood, serum or plasma samples.
  2. Test samples Collect fresh samples and put them in the diluent immediately. The diluted samples should be tested as soon as possible within 1 hour.
  3. If the test cannot be performed in time, whole blood, serum or plasma samples can be stored at 2-8°C for 3 days and serum or plasma samples can be stored at -20°C for 1 month.

How to Use FPV-Ab Test Kit

  1. Use disposable cotton swabs to collect cat whole blood, serum or plasma, add the sample to the diluent after collection, tighten the cap, and mix upside down.
  2. Tear open the aluminium foil bag of the test card, remove the test card and place it on a flat, clean countertop.
  3. Pipette 3 drops (about 80 μl) of the diluted sample into the spiked well of the test card and wait for the test result.
  4. Wait for 10-15 min at room temperature to read the test results. After 20 min the test results are invalid.

Note: The above reading time is conducted at a room temperature of 15-30℃. The reading time should be extended if the temperature is lower than 15℃. If the temperature is higher than 30℃, the reading time should be shortened.

Interpretation of Results

Negative: In the test window, only one fuchsia-colored line appears next to “C”.
Positive: In the test window, two distinct colored lines appear simultaneously next to “T” & “C”.
Invalid: no color line visible next to “C”.

test result

NOTE: Invalid test results can be caused by various reasons and should be re-tested.

Interpretation of Test Results

  1. The negative test results indicate the absence of the feline panleukopenia virus in the samples. The infection cannot be ruled out if the corresponding acute symptoms occur.
  2. The test results were positive, indicating samples containing feline panleukopenia virus.
  3. Multiple reasons may cause invalid results and should be re-tested.

Limitations of Feline Panleukopenia Virus Antibody Test Kit

  • This kit can only detect the presence of canine distemper virus antigen in the samples examined.
  • The test results are for clinical reference only and are not the basis for diagnosis.
