Intended Use of the Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit

Feline calicivirus (FCV) belongs taxonomically to the family Caliciviridae and genus Calicivirus. The virus multiplies in the brain plasma, sometimes in a crystalline or bead-like arrangement. The virus is resistant to lipid solvents (ether, chloroform, and deoxycholines); inactive at pH 3, stable at pH 4-5; inactivated at 50°C for 30 minutes. Cats infected with feline calicivirus develop upper respiratory symptoms, i.e., plasmacytic and mucous rhinorrhea, conjunctivitis, stomatitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, and depression. Feline Calicivirus infection is a multi-morbidity in cats with high morbidity and low mortality. This Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit is used to detect antibodies to feline culexvirus in cats’ whole blood, serum, or plasma.

Test Principle of the Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit

The Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit uses a rapid immunochromatographic detection technique for the detection of antibodies to Feline Calicivirus. A sample obtained from feline whole blood, serum or plasma is added to the spiked wells and moved along the chromatographic membrane together with colloidal gold-labeled FCV antigen. If FCV antibodies are present in the sample, they bind to the antigen on the detection line (T) and appear red. If FCV antibodies are not present in the sample, no color reaction is produced.

TheFeline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit is able to detect Feline Calicivirus antibody concentration, demonstrating quantitative results. The test serves only as an aid to the diagnosis. For professional use only.

Intend Use

For rapid screening of feline calicivirus in feline whole blood, serum, or plasma. (FCV).

Sample Requirements

  1. The Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit is only suitable for testing whole cat blood, serum, or plasma samples.
  2. The test sample is collected fresh and immediately put into the dilution solution. The diluted sample should be tested as soon as possible within 1 hour.
  3. If the sample cannot be tested in time, the diluted sample can be stored at 2-8℃ for 24 hours and -20℃ for 1 month.

How to Use FCV-Ab Test Kit

  1. Add the collected cat whole blood, serum, or plasma samples to the assay buffer, tighten the lid, and mix upside down.
  2. Tear open the aluminium foil bag of the test card, remove the test card and place it on a flat, clean countertop.
  3. Pipette 3 drops (about 80 μl) of the diluted sample into the spiked well of the test card and wait for the test result.
  4. Wait for 10-15 min at room temperature to read the test results. After 20 min the test results are invalid.
  5. Note: The above reading time is at room temperature 15-30℃, if the temperature is lower than 15℃, the reading time should be extended appropriately; if the temperature is higher than 30℃, the reading time should be shortened appropriately.

Note: The above reading time is conducted at a room temperature of 15-30℃. If the temperature is lower than 15℃, the reading time should be extended. If the temperature is higher than 30℃, the reading time should be shortened.

Interpretation of Results

Negative: In the test window, only one fuchsia-colored line appears next to “C”.
Positive: In the test window, two distinct colored lines appear simultaneously next to “T” & “C”.
Invalid: no color line visible next to “C”.

test result

NOTE: Invalid test results can be caused by various reasons and should be re-tested.

Interpretation of Test Results

  1. The negative test results indicate the absence of feline calicivirus antibody in the samples. The infection cannot be ruled out if the corresponding acute symptoms occur.
  2. The test results were positive, indicating samples containing feline calicivirus antibody .
  3. Multiple reasons may cause invalid results and should be re-tested.

Limitations of Feline Calicivirus Antibody Test Kit

  • This kit can only detect the presence of feline calicivirus antibody in the samples examined.
  • The test results are for clinical reference only and are not the basis for diagnosis.
