Intended Use of the Canine Distemper Virus Antigen Test Kit

Canine distemper virus (CDV) belongs to paramyxoviridae and measles virus and is a single-stranded RNA virus. The natural genera of infection are canids and weasels, and transmission is mainly horizontal through air and droplets. Diseased canines are an important source of infection and detoxify the surrounding environment through the urine for a long time. Canines of all ages, genders, and breeds can be infected. This kit is used to detect canine distemper virus antigens in canine eye secretions, nasal fluid, and saliva.

Test principle of the CDV-Ag Test Kit

Rapid immunochromatography assay for detection of canine distemper virus antigen. Eye secretions, nasal fluid, and saliva samples were added to the well and moved along the chromatographic membrane with colloidal gold labeled anti-CDV monoclonal antibody. If the CDV antigen is present in the sample, it combines with the antibody on the test line (T) and appears wine red. No color reaction occurs if CDV antigen is absent in the sample.

Intend Use

For rapid screening of Canine Influenza Virus in canine eye and conjunctival secretions, nasal fluid or saliva (CIV).

Sample Requirements

  1. This kit is only suitable for detecting canine eye secretions, nasal fluid, and saliva samples.
  2. Collect fresh samples and immediately put them into the extraction buffer solution, which should be detected as soon as possible within 1 hour.
  3. If samples are not timely detected, store them within 24 hours at 2-8℃ and store them within 1 month at -20℃.

How to Use Canine Distemper Virus Test Kit?

  1. Collect the eye secretions, nasal fluid and saliva samples with disposable swabs. After the samples were collected, they were stirred in the diluted solution and stood still for 1min. The cotton swabs were removed, the lid was tightened, and mixed upside down.
  2. Tear open the aluminum foil bag of the test card, take out the test card, and put it on a flat and clean table.
  3. Pipe 3 drops of sample solution (about 80μL),add to the sample well of test card.
  4. Read test results within 10-15 min at room temperature, and those results beyond 20 min are invalid.

Note: The above reading time is conducted at the room temperature of 15-30℃. If the temperature is lower than 15℃, the reading time should be extended. If the temperature is higher than 30℃, the reading time should be shortened.

Interpretation of Results

Negative: In the test window, only one fuchsia-colored line appears next to “C”.
Positive: In the test window, two distinct colored lines appear next to “T” & “C” simultaneously.
Invalid: no color line visible next to “C”.

test result

NOTE: Invalid test results can be caused by various reasons and should be re-tested.

Interpretation of Test Results

  1. The negative test results indicate the absence of canine distemper virus antigen in the samples. The infection cannot be ruled out if the corresponding acute symptoms occur.
  2. The test results were positive indicates samples containing canine distemper virus antigen.
  3. Since canine distemper vaccine is usually a weak vaccine, it is possible to show a positive reaction due to a momentary increase of the virus in the body during the immunization process, which disappears after 3-10 days after vaccination. Canine treated with monoclonal antibodies may show false positives for a long time, because they have secondary antibodies against monoclonal antibodies in their bodies.
  4. Invalid results may be caused by multiple reasons and should be re-tested.

Limitations of Canine Distemper Virus Antigen Test Kit

  • This kit can only detect the presence of canine distemper virus antigen in the samples examined.
  • The test results are for clinical reference only and are not the basis for diagnosis.
